5 Kinds Of Jumps To Help You Achieve The Highest Vertical Jump Possible in Basketball

Most people are not fond of hearing that they can’t just do anything they would like to do. It’s just not possible to jump as high as Michael Jordan, for example. Let’s face it, not everyone has the talent to do that. There are some exercises, though, that can help you achieve the highest vertical you are capable of achieving.

A Few Tips for Gaining Vertical Jump

The first of a series of jumps you need to improve your basketball game and dunking ability is to just jump off the ground by leaping up from your ankles. Once you are off the ground, pull up your toes but do not let your heels touch the ground. Although this is difficult, it is important for you not to bend your knees while you are up in the air or back on the ground. As soon as you hit terra firma, jump back up again. Never remain on the ground for any length of time.

The next jump involves the use of a box as high as your vertical jump is at the beginning of your training. Here you want to step off the box and land quietly on your toes – without your heels touching the ground. You want to do this subtly with a little bending of your knees or with a deep squatting position. You need to continue to increase the height of the box until your landings begin to be rough.

To reach the highest vertical possible to improve your basketball game and to win that special jump shot, you need to actually do some vertical jumps. Here the idea is to jump as high as possible onto an object and then jump off as quickly as you can. Use a sturdy box for this exercise. This is obviously a good option.

A Fun Vertical Jump Exercise

The next jumps are what we call the step stool jumps. To do this right, you will need four or five step stools or boxes of varying height. You should start with the smallest box. Once you jumped up onto it, get back down, but get off the ground as quickly as possible as you jump to the next, the higher box.

Finally, you need to combine the vertical jump with the second jump described in this article. Doing this will help you achieve the highest vertical possible in your basketball game. What you want to do here is leap off a box as high as your highest vertical. Once on the ground, you need to jump up again as high as you can. This combination allows you to learn embracing contact, exploding quickly, and then getting into a vertical high for that great dunking shot.
